  • The history of Fairmont State is part and parcel of the history of public education in West Virginia. Founded in 1865, two years after the state was admitted into the Union, the university was established as the West Virginia Normal School at Fairmont—a private institution dedicated to educating teachers.

    To be able to win tournaments, teams have to be able to grind. For some squads at the Hoop Group Jam Fest, that meant playing three games per day, two days in a row. Elimination play took place Friday at the Feaster Center and Falcon Center on the Fairmont State University campus, with teams from all over trying to survive and move on to the next round of the tournament.

    A Fairmont State University football recruit pled not guilty to charges of obstruction of a Morgantown Police officer and battery.    Timothy Leon Orange II, 21, of Fairmont, was arrested in June after he was Tased by police around 2 a.m. on Chesnut Street outside Bent Willey’s bar.
