- Independent Study (I.S.) is the most distinctive feature of Wooster's curriculum. The I.S. program offers all Wooster students the opportunity to explore what interests them most, and create an original research project, written work, performance or exhibit of artwork, supported one-on-one by a faculty mentor. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Wooster's I.S. program the number two senior capstone experience in the nation, second only to Princeton University.
- Washington Post education reporter and columnist Jay Mathews ranks Wooster number four on a list of America's "outstanding but underappreciated" colleges in his book: Harvard Schmarvard: Getting Beyond the Ivy League to the College That Is Best for You
- Wooster ranks 18th in the nation among liberal arts colleges whose graduates earned Ph.D.'s between 1966 and 2002. The College is situated on 240 acres and populated by approximately 1,800 undergraduate students, 150 faculty, and numerous staff members.

Eleanor Shaw Linegar, 97, was born July 2, 1913, in Gouverneur, N. Y., to Karl and Winnifred Fenner. She grew up in Gouverneur and Lorain, Ohio, graduating from Lorain High School in 1930. Eleanor attended the College of Wooster, earning a BA in math education.
