- The College of Wooster is an independent liberal arts college, founded in 1866 and nationally
recognized for an innovative curriculum that emphasizes independent learning.
- Independent Study (I.S.) is the most distinctive feature of Wooster's curriculum. For more than 50
years, I.S. has offered all Wooster students the opportunity to explore what interests them most, and create an original
research project, written work, performance or exhibit of artwork, supported one-on-one by a faculty mentor. U.S. News &
World Report has ranked Wooster's I.S. program the number two senior capstone experience in the nation, second only to
Princeton University.
