School Notes:
- Lafayette College offers only undergraduate programs. It grants the Bachelor of Arts degree in 33 established major fields, the Bachelor of Science in nine fields of science and four of engineering. Interdisciplinary majors have been established in Africana Studies, American Studies, Biochemistry, International Affairs, A.B. International Studies/B.S. Engineering, Mathematics and Economics, Neuroscience, and Russian and East European Studies; in addition, a number of departments have joined others in offering coordinate majors. Many departments also permit a minor in the field. A five-year, two-degree plan is also available.
- Lafayette has built a strong reputation in the liberal arts, sciences, and engineering because of its focus on the student. This unusual combination of strengths continues to define Lafayette's special role among the top liberal arts colleges in the nation.
- Lafayette College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The Commission on Higher Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
- Lafayette is classified among America's "most academically competitive colleges" by Barron's, publishers of the well-known guidebooks Profiles of American Colleges and Guide to the Most Competitive Colleges. Only 65 of the 1,650 four-year colleges profiled in Profiles of American Colleges have this rating.
