- Over the past five decades, the American Jewish University has flourished into a nationally recognized educational institution—one that fully reflects and embraces the rich diversity of American Jewish life. This sense of inclusiveness dates back to the university’s founding days in 1947, when Dr. Mordecai Kaplan, the author of “Judaism as a Civilization,’’ conceived of an institution that would embody as many forms of Jewish expression as possible.

A sell-out crowd packed the American Jewish University’s (AJU) Gindi Auditorium on April 3 and watched as Rabbi Zoë Klein of Temple Isaiah tangoed her way to the inaugural “Dancing With the Rabbis” trophy.
