Bowdoin is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducational residential, undergraduate liberal arts institution founded in 1794. It is located in Brunswick, Maine, a town of 21,000 on the Maine coast. Study at Bowdoin leads to a bachelor of arts degree in one of over 40 departmental and interdisciplinary majors. Bowdoin enrolls approximately 1,680 students from across the country and around the world.More than 120 buildings are a part of the approximately 215-acre Bowdoin campus.

- Bowdoin's 110-acre campus, comprising 80 buildings, is a brief walk from downtown Brunswick, Maine. The town of 22,000 people is 25 miles from Portland, and approximately 120 miles from Boston. Brunswick, the state's largest town, brings together elements of both city and country living, including cultural offerings, a variety of restaurants and numerous activities for the outdoor enthusiast. - The historic building contains the modernized 610-seat Pickard Theater and the 150-seat Wish Theater in a pavilion linked to Memorial Hall by a glass atrium. New support space houses a scene shop, a costume shop and storage, rehearsal spaces, and dressing rooms for the theater and dance programs.
- Bowdoin’s facilities extend to several sites at varying distances from the central campus. A new office building, the McLellan Building, located a few blocks from campus at 85 Union Street, houses the offices of Human Resources, Communications and Public Affairs, the Controller’s Office, art studios, and a large conference room. More than 120 buildings are a part of the approximately 215-acre Bowdoin campus. They range from Massachusetts Hall, built in 1802, to Kanbar Hall, a 26,000-square-foot award-winning educational facility that was completed in 2004; LEED certified "green" residence halls completed in 2005; and a recital hall, due to open in spring 2007. Bowdoin's Coastal Studies Center, located eight miles from campus on 118 acres of Orr's Islands, was completed in 1998.
