Since its founding in 1974, UHD has more than doubled the size of its student population, increased the number of degree programs from one to nearly 40 -- including four graduate programs, renovated and expanded the campus, achieved accreditation, and received national recognition for its student diversity and outstanding academic opportunities.

In addition to excellent bachelor's degree programs, UHD offers master's programs in four disciplines: the Master of Science in Criminal Justice, the Master of Science in Professional Writing and Technical Communication, the Master of Security Management, and the Master of Arts in Teaching. UH-Downtown, Houston's Downtown University, offers over 30 bachelor's degree programs and 4 master's degree programs.
